General Electric Plans To Halt Operations At Its Hudson River Plant

General Electric has taken a great initiative since they are now playing their part in saving Earth.

Its been almost seven years since General Electric Company has been dredging at the Hudson River where the company has now announced to completely shut down its operations. This initiative is actually a breakthrough since 310,000 pollutants will be removed. According to the company, this initiative is the company’s final step to clean up the mess they’ve made. The factories of General Electric have dumped “polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB)” garbage in the rivers since the past couple of years although it had been chalked out as toxic. The polychlorinated biphenyls were banned in the year 1979 due to the health problems associated to them. Moreover, the federal governmental authorities have called this waste as an active catalyst promoting cancer. General Electric was still using the banned chemical in its electrical capacitors for the fire resistant cooling oil. The plan t to manufacture these was established at Hudson River. The company at this point of time wants the approval of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) which might be observed by Thursday. A great chunk of the dredging happening upon the Hudson River was finished by the firm back in 2009. So in compliance with the company’s agreement with EPA, the company had the choice of choosing the magnitude of the venture and choosing the possibilities over the 12 year time span. The Vice President of Global Operations, Health, Safety and Environment claimed that it took almost seven years to design the project and another six years to implement it. The team has tirelessly worked hard to meet the deadlines and achieve the targets. The company has finally finished the project but now has to restore the vegetation to the particular areas of the river. The company has encountered immense criticism over the past from several agencies of the government and environmental group where they have been alleged for not keeping the environment clean in the United States. The company will also test the different fish varieties present in the Hudson River like Striped Bass and Black Bass since they need to determine the toxicity level. According to General Electric, by removing the PCB, they might further rupture the aquatic life in comparison to leaving it the way it was. Moreover, it is also believed that the river might just be able to clean itself over the passage of time. Irrespective of what happens, the initiative taken by the company is commendable since they are now playing their part in saving Earth.
